Welcome to Combs Ford Primary School

Welcome to the Reception page! Our teachers are Miss Gregory in Robins class and Mrs Cole and Mrs Lambert in Kingfishers class. We are supported by Mrs Langley, Mrs Lambert, Mrs Mills and Mrs Squirrell.

What do we aim to do?

Our aim is to provide a secure, safe, happy and stimulating environment where the children can enjoy high quality learning through play and playful activities, gaining a lifelong enthusiasm for learning along the way.

How do we do it?

We follow the Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum, which identifies three prime areas:-

  • Communication and Language
  • Physical Development
  • Personal, Social and Emotional Development

and four specific areas, through which the three prime areas are strengthened and applied.

  • Literacy
  • Mathematics
  • Understanding the World
  • Expressive Arts and Design

These areas cannot be delivered in isolation from the others. They are equally important and interlink with each other. All areas are delivered through a balance of adult led and child initiated activities. In each area there are Early Learning Goals (ELG's) that define the expectations for most children to reach by the end of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS).

We value each child as an individual and use information from parents, preschools and our own observations and interactions with the children, to plan activities that will interest and engage them.

Parents are regularly invited into school and are invited to share, comment upon and contribute towards their child’s ‘Learning Journey’ - this is a record that we keep updated with photographs and comments about each child’s learning. It is always wonderful to celebrate and share their achievements.

The children learn both letter names and letter sounds - these can be practised at home, using the letter names and sounds page to help.
